Paying to represent the Country

The parents of the National Juniors are paying a lot of money to finance the teams that represent our Country. They have invested deeply for the future of Malaysian Chess. They also pay a lot to those that are earning from the chess community in the form of attending tournaments, paying for lessons; apart from paying for the trips overseas to represent Malaysia.

So maybe they have a different perspective from those that play chess as a hobby. Can you imagine their heartache when they see those going to the Olympiad that is fully funded and then hear stories of the players there not taking the opportunity seriously? Stories, true or not, of them wanting to sell books and not wanting to play. Stories of them wanting to lobby amongst the delegates for business deals and not wanting to play. Stories of handphone ringing and throwing a game.

As the major investors towards the future of Malaysian Chess do they have a case that the Seniors prove that they are serious about representing the Country? What they are concerned about is the road blocks that can prevent the Juniors from progressing further. Road blocks of our own making.

No free rides. If the Seniors are no longer interested to fight for the Country and if they are also not interested to give something back to the Juniors then what is their value as to where we want to go as the Malaysian Chess Community?

  1. Please tell us all who was the one throwing the game. Otherwise retract your statements.

  2. I am quite curious about the way you (and certain other seniors) use belligerence instead of reasoning to try to get your way. Is that how they broke you?

  3. Just answer the question, stop diverting the issue

  4. I cannot answer a non question. Go and re-read. I am sorry I cannot indulge your imagined slights or respond to your fervid bitterness. You have to do that work yourself. If you find it so difficult to look in the mirror I suggest you go to the sites that do not bring up the real and genuine issues of concern to the chess community.

  5. The question is who you are referring to that threw a game in an olympiad. Ok, let me reproduce the sentence here since you have problems locating it "Stories of handphone ringing and throwing a game.". Which of the ten players threw a game? I think the other nine have a right to have their name cleared.

  6. I am sorry you cannot read or understand context. So I will indulge you this one time. The only mention of a thrown game was the handphone ringing. Stop your nonsense and stupidity. Try to do something productive. You have started on a series. Go and continue that. Think deeply and offer solutions. No one has forgotten your contributions. You do not need to remind us by childish outbursts. I will delete all future inane and nonsensical postings from you. Do not waste your time and mine.

  7. I think only 1 senior who have the right to play.MAS HAFIZUL HELMI and none other commited themselves

  8. Mas Hafizul pulled out of 2 tournaments last year, despite confirming prior to that. He had dengue, but even after recovering and playing in another tournament, he withdrew from the following 2 tournaments which he had already confirmed after he had recovered from dengue, citing that he has not "fully recovered". Well, maybe he should have seen that coming before he confirmed that.

While I don't think this would make Mas a slacker, it's obvious that he isn't as committed as anyone might think. He is not any more committed than the rest.

And please don't forget that he had 18 months off from work to play chess and only showed little progress. Again, it doesn't make him a lousy player, but he isn't exactly better than other candidates.

  9. That in no way makes Mas a person who would take a bribe to throw the game. Far from it!

  10. It was never implied. That comment was a rebuttal to "Mas is the only senior with the right to play"

  11. Anyone who has played against Mas recently will know that he has lost a lot of heart in chess. He no longer has much fighting spirit in serious games. Because of that, he is grossly overrated at the moment. Just use a fair and open selection system. No need to over-argue. No one is entitled to a free place on the team. Use a results-based selection criteria. Then the juniors and seniors have their fair chance.
