One party asks a question where the opposition has no answer ie winning on the board. The other party throws all sorts of distractions hoping to divert from answering that question.
Now if we can stay focussed and not sabotage ourselves then we can win.
The question is should players who have not played competitively for a period be automatically selected for representation of the Country?
If not, then what is the solution? We have SEA games this year. Dont you think we need to at least debate this question now?

The simple answer is NO. But then people will ask you to define "competitively", "length of period" and "automatically".
ReplyDeleteSome time ago, I said on this blog FGM, that a certain player who was acknowledged as the best in this country was not GM material. You disagreed with me. He could walk into any Malaysian team then and now. After 2 years he is now a weaker player then when he started, and mind you, he played competively all over the world. Should he be given preference over others?
You are talking about one player. I am talking about the principle. I am talking about the system for eligibility. As we know that is the purvue of MCF. We are just raising the point that right now the system see unfair. More so if the stories circulating around about what happened in the Olympiads is true. Anyway a competitive system is better. Who is to say that one or more member of the mamak gang or even the juniors cannot suddenly overtake? Right now even if they did, who would know? Think of the other members who went. One exception does not prove anything. What would be the criteria for SEA games, the next Olympiad? Would this one player you mentioned still be as strong? Use a system that motivate players to improve.
ReplyDeleteI feel that the system already motivate other players to improve. We need players who can compete internationally and not locally. We are talking in terms of medal and not just for exposure sick. For a game like SEA GAMES, the seniors should wave the flag for malaysia and i am sure MCF is experience enough to handle this
ReplyDeletep.s: You are indirectly insulting MCF, so please mind your language
Another point is this. Obviously there is something wrong with their game if their rating drops with each outing. They/he must find the reason they are not doing well and confront and fix the problem. So yes they/he still can. But if they run away and hide then its over. Who are you to judge that he wont do it. Maybe even tomorrow. If he wakes up tomorrow and say I will fight then it is not over.
ReplyDelete:) Now you are speaking for MCF. You are insulting MCF by not even stating who you are and trying to twist things again. Go and read cheap tricks.
ReplyDeleteDear Anonymous,
ReplyDeletePeople who make change happened are mostly brash and straight-to-the-point, as they don't fear stepping on anyone's toes and are focused on getting results. This is a credit to our resident blogger. Please don't misconstrue it with rudeness. Those who have different views from us shouldn't be the whipping boys. They should be lauded instead.
Anonymous 1 and 2 are different people!
ReplyDeleteLet them compete for the place. If they are our best chance then so be it. Then we cheer them on and hope to see fighting chess. If they are that strong and we really want to see medals that is the best way, isn't it? Ultimately it is MCF's call. In Mal/Sing the parents also agreed. Let Greg make the call. During the battle we support even if we may not understand. The results are on MCF's heads. They have the authority and that must come with the responsibility.
ReplyDeleteMy friend. Use your name or do something like abdooss. Then its less confusing. The period of the witch hunt is past. Judge Greg for yourself. Have you heard of him going after anyone? He is a fair person. No need to hide. If you give good reasons and can back up what you say then its ok. Why should honest men hide? Shouldnt it be the other way?
ReplyDeleteI may make a statement and I find Raymond Siew, Jimmy Liew, Rationality and Chess Ninja coming after me with long essays like there is no tomorrow. Every word I use has to be seriously considered for half a day, if not I am open to Police reports and opinion polls ... that I don't have time for.
ReplyDeletedrop rating is a sign of failure? so even if he drop rating doesnt mean your son should qualify with a rating of 1900?
ReplyDeleteThat is not true. You can state your opinion. I can agree or not agree. If you want me to agree then you must give me good reasons and argue well. There is no problem with that. No one will make a police report about that. You can even say my reasoning is flawed, dumb, even stupid. That is just your opinion.
ReplyDeleteBut you cross the line when you say MCF, Air Asia and FGM cheated the public. That was what prompted the discussion to lodge the police report. Are we clear now?
Call me stupid in your next comment to see if I care if you still dont believe what I say.
Another cheap trick. If Marks game is not strong then of course he doesnt deserve to play. We fight for our place. But if say Saprin or Che Hassan or Sumant or Li Tian's game is strong then let them represent. The problem with rating is that if you play in tournaments sponsored by others overseas, then the locals who may be stronger may find it difficult to compare in rating. So best thing is to fight it out. Fairer dont you think? Why do you pick on my son? What has he done to you?
ReplyDeleteYou may want to read posting on misdirected anger. Get angry with the situation or the person that made you this way.
Not said by me. Do you see the problem? I only commented here and it is obvious I am none of the 4 warring parties. Then you said "you said this and that", thus accusing me wrongfully. You should have used a word like "someone". Agreed? That is why I said I have to consider every word I use for half a day.
ReplyDeleteI see you have a problem when you do not have a name. And it seems to me that only you can fix that. So deal with it.

ReplyDeleteI gave you the reason so none can attack me by name. I have no time to defend against personal attacks because I feel obliged to answer things directed at me. I was one who said long time ago I do not attack people but ideas. I don't call people stupid. I waited 2 years to see I was proven right about our "potential" FGM. You were wrong, but it is a small matter.
heheheehehehehe laughing stock la you raymond
ReplyDeleteSM IS THE BEST
Something doesnt sound right. A name is so that you can express your individuality. Thinking first before moving or in this case speaking is a discipline of chess. Look at the questions that are now asked about Rationality when he deleted his posts. Can he even be a strong player if he can not even think before he writes. The same applies to Jimmy. Backing them shows his inability to reason.
ReplyDeleteBut why are you waiting to see if Mas is going to be GM or not? That is his decision. You have not proven anything. I believe as I have stated before that both Mas and Mok still have a shot. But they have to deal with their issues first. That is up to them. Dont worry about others. I think thats where you are off. Work on yourself. See the foolishness of the other anonymous and resolve not to be as dumb as them.
Raymond Siew, I do not operate a blog like you do. I don't have the time and inclination to do so, as I have other interests besides blogging to convert others. You can blog as often as you like, maybe 50 times a day on your blog. I only comment on certain topics on other peoples' blogs and will have no opportunity to blabber on and on like what is happening.
ReplyDeleteDon't you see bloggers can start topics as they like? I can't... and I won't like to as it involves tremendous amounts of work and thought.
Mind you, if I put in the amount of effort like you do on my chess studies, I may become a much better player. And that is what counts. Countering arguments like yours are not fruitful and will lead to little progress because you must command concrete support for yourself as a person and your ideas as workable. As of now, you seem to have a lot of enemies. Not me, though!
On the topic of the certain player, it is just to demonstrate you were wrong and backed the wrong horse. Admitting you were wrong is not that hard, is it? I believe I said he was an average IM and not GM material based on my observation of his play and results, and you were saying he stood a good chance of getting GM status in 18 months, based on just your opinion.Your opinion based on what? 2 years later, we see the outcome. This is where you avoid the issue as others have stated. You side track by saying "Mas and Mok" still have a shot. I agree with you that may happen in the future, but it is a fact that when you said that 2 years ago, you have been proven wrong . Your time estimate was wrong.
I don't call people foolish or dumb. You said you don't attack people, but in fact you do. Unfortunately.
Now you bring up that I said Mas will be GM in 2 years. I do not think that is true. In fact it cannot be true because I never thought so. I have always said it is possible. I dont think our current chess culture can bring forth a GM actually. We waste too much time on senseless arguments. But if this can change this then all is possible. I also dont know where you gathered the evidence that I have a lot of enemies? From the anonymous postings by the same few persons or the poll that can be fixed?
ReplyDeleteYou are not making much sense and at the risk of making "one" more enemy, I think you are dumb too. What do you know about what makes an IM? Who are you to judge Mas? How do you know what he or Mok will do tomorrow. Many people have turned themselves around. Are you saying that just because you are incapable of that that others are incapable too? Dumb and stupid. Of course I can attack too. When have I said that I dont? Get a name and then try to get a life when you have a name.
