Intellectual debate over emotional response

I have to admit to being concerned over recent developments in our Country. I just read this article that says that intellectual debate is futile; people make emotive responses.

Yes, I know that is true to an extent. But chess shows that we can order our intellect and make it supreme over emotions. That is also supposed to be the role of education but we are far adrift there.

I believe if we can reason, we can solve problems. We can build a business or a Nation. And we can certainly get our GM. Not easy, as many who try to tame their emotions in chess will discover. But it can be done all the same with correct training. We will all have a brighter future if we can take this road.
