Dato Tan stands down

Read here.

This is my 2 cents worth. I dont think we can find another Dato Tan. I think he is one in a million. I think that to get serious corporate sponsors we have to really look at our deliverables ie what are we giving back to the sponsors. Now that is a thing that will require MCF to make serious changes. That is the crux. That is what I have been saying to them. Dato may be the only person in Malaysia with the resources and who loves chess enough to give consistently and not ask anything in return. As things are going either Dato may have to come back before the 2 years is up or MCF changes, we change the way we do things, look at things. This may turn out to be a good thing. Time will tell.

  1. Dato moving out is just a pre-emp signal that Karpov will win the Presidency and Hamid will be a very busy man for the first yr or so and he could not care much if Malaysia MCF will rot for the time being. Then Hamid will be the saviour to Malaysian Chess using his new position in FIDE. A final legacy from Hamid. Everyone esp. Greg must give way and get out from MCF executive position.

Let say Karpov losses his campaign, Hamid already further distance himself from MCF with Dato' pulling a plug to MCF main resources. Hamid being Hamid will not retire from active chess for long. He will instead transform himself to play a more significant role in MCF after some resting period (i guess around 1 yr) to see how far down can MCF reach. Then, he will announce the return of Dato' to save Malaysian chess on Dato's condition.

A nice sandiwara to watch .........
