Another level

I am going to take a break till after UTP. This is a tough blog to read and I want to thank you all for taking the time to contribute or just to read. Harsh words were sometimes exchanged but this is to be expected by people who care with such passion. I have always maintained my faith in our chess community. I believe the love that we all share for this game will eventually pull us through.

Allow me share again what I see. Despite our laggard performance, we still have people who care enough to give of their time. See below. Despite all the criticisms I have levied on MCF and CS solutions, I can say that I met both Hamid and Najib at the Merdeka Rapid and both of them behaved like gentlemen. Despite me calling Greg weak, he still offered Mark a place for World Youth which we turned down because of SPM.

To me this marks another level of maturity. A sophistication in thinking that we will need if we are to move to the next level.

Note: I am not advocating unfounded attacks on MCF. I am saying that pettiness and narrow mindedness wont take us far.

You can see this too if you flip the coin, change your lenses.

We need to learn to compete as well as learn to partner. There is knowledge in both.

Chess Ninja, you have a point. The vast majority of people in our chess world do not know what is going on but that is OK. We have over 100 people reading this blog daily and spending time here. That is enough. These people care, you care.

So if you still hear someone saying something negative about this community, I hope you'll point them in the direction of our National Juniors. Point them to Nabil and Shakir, Lim Zhuo Ren, Sumant, Tariq, Edward, Mark, Kaushal,.....and so many others.

They know how to compete and they know how to befriend. Take heart in this. We are the guardians of very special boys and girls. They will be our future. So lets take a page from them and learn too.

Lets take care of this environment so they and the ones after them can flourish. The GM will come. We the adults, just need to look after the present.

  1. It is NOT OK that the majority do not know what is going on. It is because of this lack of transparency that we are where we are today.

I shall have to link you to the whole story:

Forgive me for the inconvenience. The comment boxes are just too small. Either that, or I just have too much to say. Sorry.

  2. I have heard of many of the horror stories during Hamid's days and I am glad he is no longer the Secretary. Mark's case in Perak is very simliar and the attempt to knock him out unfairly continues to this day.

But at the same time I want to give Hamid the benefit of the doubt as a tournament organiser. At present there is no evidence of any hanky panky. So maybe this is the right place for him. Maybe he was just not cut out to be secretary. Focus on the present. In Greg's case he is new and he deserves a chance. If you join these dots you may see better. You are also right that there is no alternative.

Mark was offered the place by virtue of his 4th placing in NAG and the other 3 turned down the offer. We would not have considered it otherwise.

For Asean, we did sponsor the air ticket for an official. That is just part of our National service. We will continue to do what is right and not stoop to that level.

All I am saying is continue to be vigilant but let go of the past. Give this new structure a chance.

The important thing is to allow the KL/Penang culture to gain in strength and not have the Perak culture take over. That evidence is fairly conclusive if we care to look. In Perak they have almost killed off all their strong players.

  3. Hamid is a very different person than you can imagine

  4. This is actually still a nature vs nurture question. If you believe in nature, then change is not possible. You will see things in still shots. On the other hand if you see nurture, you can see in movie form. As things unfold from what you do in the present.

If I was to tell you that I was a very different person back in my construction days and I only started to be more aware of my actions after I almost lost everything, would it make a difference?

  5. Only when a person's belief system has been totally shaken will that person start to examine their lives and past actions and maybe change into a different sort of person. Such events can be a life-and-death experience, loss of a loved one, loss of things that person believes defines him (material wealth, status in society, health ), spiritual experience and so on.

As you said it happened to you. Does it change anyone other than you! The answer is no. So what difference does it make to what I said earlier?

    ReplyDelete
  6. That change is possible but it starts with you. It always does. I too suffered under Hamids machinations. He probably orchestrated my expulsion from PICA. And that possibly cost Perak RM 2 million in sponsorship. The story is on the blog. Right now he is in a place where he can contribute. So stop pointing your finger and do something to help change things. Your energy would be better served that way. I have already listed some ways that you can help. Maybe you can think of others. If not then try that. Staying bitter only hurts you.

  7. Give the new team a chance? There is no new team as long as Hamid is still there. The players may change over time, but the team is still the same. It is called Hamid and his sidekicks. Whether Hamid is the secretary or not changes nothing. He is still very much in the picture. One can almost ascertain him as tournament director aka "the puppet master".

You even referred to him as a gentlemanly, which made me choke. That is precisely the kind of person he is. Nothing bad will come out of his mouth in front of you. The world is beautiful and rainbows come out of his backside. Just as long as you don't turn your back around. We call this kind of people with a forked tongue, snakey.

You will be promised the world on one day, go home, sleep soundly, but don't be surprised that the next day, your roof crumbles down upon you. I am not dwelling on the past. Many of these shady dealings are happening even as recent as this year. How can you keep pushing me into the past?

Some day, you will hate the fact that I will say this to you, "I told you so". But the joke will be on me. Because you know what, I would hate it even more than you that I have to say it to you. For all our sakes, our children's sakes, our grandchildren's sakes, I hope to be proven wrong.

As for Greg, I will leave his stories for another day. Or perhaps someone else will finish them for me.

  8. Lets stay vigilant then. But dont let anger cloud your judgement. We learnt this from chess no? So much chatter we cannot see what is happening in front of us. In the meantime work for change. Dont support fixed tournaments and dont sponsor them until we see clear evidence that there is change. Thats the best I can think of for now.

  9. Maybe this is a good way to look at this. Play the cards where they lay. Dont cry over spilled milk. You have the pieces set in a chess puzzle. Look carefully where all the pieces are. Now play on. Your move.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Maybe this is how you should look at it. We are all playing a blindfold game. I can't see very far ahead, but I think I am onto some 20-move positional combination. But it requires all sorts of maneuvering and putting all my pieces into place before I launch my attack. The only trouble is, my opponent is a Grandmaster. Maybe, just maybe, I might just catch him.

  11. Sometimes i wonder whether you all know Hamid very well to make accusations and conclusion about him.

Did you all ever work with him? Maybe yes..1-2 times but is it enough for you to judge people..."who are you?"

I know many parents who is very active and make noise about how bad malaysian chess was manage but after their son achieve their target, they left...i repeat...THEY LEFT!.... They didn't care anymore bout chess while people like Hamid with limited resources continue with his level best.

Remember, chess is not a wealthy sports like Badminton, football, bowling etc...who receive a hefty allocations from sponsor and government.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I agree with anonymous to a point. Hamid is still contributing. We must give him that. But anonymous, we do know Hamid to an extent. We know the MCF he left behind. We know that during his time he could not bring Malaysian chess to the next level despite having the resources that many other Countries would have wished but who still produced better results. We know him from his legacy. I hope he does a better job running tournaments. He is doing a good job there so far.

But back to Ninja. Why do you give Hamid all the power that you are still fighting him in your mind? You are blindfolded you cannot see. Maybe you are fighting a mouse? Maybe he has no more power than what you give him.

  13. "Chess Ninja", Who are you dscribing a "We call this kind of people with a forked tongue, snakey". Seems to apply to both Hamid and Raymond Siew. Haha. You will find out for yourself if you turn your back when working with Raymond Siew. Haha, the PICA people found out and sack him. Greg, Ibrahim and Haslinda found out when they allow him thru MCF doors (because of Azlin). Only Azlin is still blind because Raymond Siew is still charming her because he needs her contacts (rememeber Tony Fernandez) and her money see (First GM Academy)

  14. Thank you for showing yourself terminator. You represent the very sickness we have in Malaysian chess. You are the cancer we need to remove or chess wont be able to progress in Malaysia.

  15. The power is not given by me. After I left the country so many years ago due to my life obligations, I had left the chess scene to the likes of you. When I returned, I found out that nothing has changed. I wish I could say I am surprised. As a chess player, I pride myself in being able to play blindfold chess. Except in this game, Hamid is the Grandmaster. Maybe you can call it imagined fears. But I am not afraid. I just played the first move of my 20-move combo. You still can't see where I am headed. But let's just all wait and see. Let the game play out.

Anonymous, you represent the whole class of people that I am talking about that is groping at nothingness in a dark dark place. You forget to ask the question, "Why did they leave?" They left because they could not go any further. "Why were the resources so limited?" I can only stop short of saying Hamid always put some into his own pocket.

And please, why don't you ask yourself if you know Hamid like I do? My encounters with Hamid have been endless. In fact, I have seen at least 5 generations of players who have been victimized by Hamid and his goons. Sooner or later, people decide to move on in life, to do things that can actually put food on their tables. That is why people left.

I wonder how Hamid puts food on his table. I sure hope its not with the MCF's money.

  16. We always suspect someone is on the take.

What I can't stand is ; why don't the witness step forward, give info to the MACC, for instance.

It's easy to accuse anyone. What is hard is to prove it. It's easier to wait for someone else to step forward, which in the Malaysian scenario, no one will!

  17. The resistance is at the accounts level. That is why you will never get a set of proper accounts. Pressure them for it and this will go away. Accounts that itemize expenditure. Not the lump sum type. That was my big battle in PICA and a contributing factor to my sacking. I demanded for accounts.

    ReplyDelete
  18. "I wonder how Hamid puts food on his table. I sure hope its not with the MCF's money.". Thats a low blow, Ninja

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yes. I agree. Leave the man alone. Unless you have a problem with him running tournaments. Our questions should be directed to Greg. He has the helm now. Maybe we can talk about that after the weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  20. "Accounts that itemize expenditure. Not the lump sum type. That was my big battle in PICA and a contributing factor to my sacking. I demanded for accounts." Wow, forked tongue at work here. From reliable PICA sources, it was the other way round. PICA demanded the Syuen accounts and money from you. You refused to submit accounts or hand over PICA money. This was the first instance of faulty accounting in PICA 14-year history of stringent accounting. That was why you were sacked. PICA challenged you to take them to Court or ROS or COS, whichever is the proper authority to arbitrate sacking for the sacking, but you dare not. Instead you started shouting from behind Azlin's skirt to get MCF involved. Real shameful lah.

    ReplyDelete
  21. It is amazing the lies that you guys can spin. The facts are all there. I have written everything on this blog documenting the whole thing. The shame is on PICA. I hope they now have the courage to justify the sacking. They have not given me or MCF, when I last checked, an explanation. The shame is on you to drag Adzlin into this like the coward you are. I speak openly and I do not hide. Why dont you and PICA do the same? I am here and I am in the open. Stop hiding Terminator and PICA. Look at the truth. You can only be better if you can find that courage.

    ReplyDelete
  22. How about this terminator, give us your name and we can debate this here. Show us your facts and I will show you mine. Stop attacking the children and the women. It is not helping you case. Honestly. What everyone here will see is a bully and the vilest type of human being.

  23. Replying to mtheory and abdooss:

  24. "What everyone here will see is a bully and the vilest type of human being." This is a very apt description of Raymond Siew. Raymond Siew, you was the one that first bring Azlin into the picture when you conned her with your lies to support your fight against PICA. And this is from a very reliable "MCF" source. MCF agreed to write a soft letter to PICA to give face to Azlin. I am told a response has already been given to MCF. PICA did not do anything wrong obviously.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Think about it for a second. How can reliable information be given from an unreliable source? You dont even dare to show your face. For all we know you can be a total crook. Give us your name so we can verify that you are a relaible source. Then you may be taken seriously. Now you just come across as a vile, coward. This is for you own good terminator. Be brave.
