We need to put thinking back into the thinking sport.

Chess is called a mental (mind) sport for a reason. It's about the mind. It's about competitor analysis, it's about strategy, it's about psychology and neurology. It's about the winning mindset and the requisite training. Mental, emotional as well as technical.

Yet in Malaysian chess a few refuse to acknowledge anything but the technical. And they try to impose their views on the rest of us. If we disagree with them they attack us. And so we have languished far behind others. We have tons upon tons of evidence to show that their limited perspective on technical alone does not work and yet we have been "trained" here not to see that very obvious and glaring fact.

The tools they use to stop us from seeing is fear. They attack the children, they attack you, harangue you, vilify you. They use the instruments of office to ban you, deny your accomplishments by not applying for your norms if you do not kow tow, rewrite history to whitewash away any of your achievements, selecting pass you by allowing back doors so you have no chance to succeed until you are broken.

When you are fully broken you get sent to the Olympiad as your token reward; until a more obedient horse is found; until there are better benefits from backing another horse. And so you are asked to slowly wait your turn till you are summoned. Don't bother improving your chess. Our system is designed to only pass those that kow tows low enough, plus plus. And your chess means little in the evaluation. There is no selection by clean competition at the senior level. (Except for that one time that I know of for SEA games and that has been removed).

Then you will be sent to represent Malaysia. Then all here will be asked to cheer your failure because actually you cannot play high level chess. There is no incentive for that.

If you go back and look at the "arguments" of those that are against looking beyond just the technical you will find just 2 basic approaches. One is character assassination and the other deflection. It seems that they are just unable to reason. They cannot face reality or make a suggestion on how we are to improve. So this is already strong evidence of what our chess can do to you if we do not change.

Very simply, how on earth can your chess be of a high level if you are pathologically unable to reason??!!

This approach also relegates Malaysia to being a hobbyist chess Country. There is no way to reach the heights that other chess nations have reached if we remove critical thinking and deep reasoning out of chess.

Is that what we want? Then lets forget about the medals and high achievements. Follow the Jimmy method and we will always remain a chess hobby Country. Look closely and see for yourself. Jimmy is probably playing at around Junior level in todays International Chess. And even that may be a generous overestimation.

Bring back the thinking, stop the knee jerks and angry reactions to the truth of where we are now. Wake up.

We need to deeply analyse how to achieve good thinking under pressure; what is a winning mindset, to move forward. There are many more things we need to look at besides just technical. We have had 30 plus years of failing to tell us that their way is not the way. Isn't that enough wasted time?
