Kasparov affects Anand with words- Sunday Musings.

Ref: Here.

Even negative statements must be bound by reality. Either you see the cup half full or half empty. So it's a matter of perspective after realistic appraisal. However to call an empty cup half full is simply delusional.

Our PM said last night that Chong Wei has a chance for Olympic gold and the words he used was that he has the mental and emotional strength to do it. Our PM did not say Chong Wei had the technical strength. Can you understand why?

With reference to the above link posted in a chess community forum on facebook, I asked whether Anand would have worked on his mental strength so that he won't be affected by Kasparov's words in the future or would he have tried to silence Kasparov so that he cannot express his opinions anymore?

Personally I think one is an exercise in futility and the other worthwhile and achievable work. Think about it.

Do you think Chong Wei would work on his technical and mental training or try to ensure that nobody says anything "negative" about him? He has a real chance doesn't he? He has done the work.

Somehow in Malaysian chess we continue to think our players can succeed untested, untrained and mentally weak enough to want back doors and shortcuts. So is it a wake up call away from self delusion or negativity when I say that our Olympiad Team has no legitimacy? That this is not the Malaysian Team but Jimmy's Team; the Dealmakers Team. If the cup is empty shouldn't we say it is empty instead of claiming it is half full?

Simply put, mental work is hard but trying to stop another from having an opinion of you is impossible.
