Should Fide fix match fixing?

This is the question running in my mind during this Olympic season. We see the Olympic committee acting against match fixing in Badminton; disqualification of players due to infringement of doping rules etc. The Olympic Spirit. Healthy competition. Sports being a unifying factor in the world. A powerful message.

And Chess is trying to become an Olympic Sport. Wouldn't there be less resistance to the entry of Chess if Chess was able to reflect the Olympic spirit too? My question to Fide is whether a totally fraudulent selection from a National Association is a form of match fixing? I hear that the Fide rating for an entire Country was slashed because of match fixing ie the business of "selling" Fide rating. So they are aware that high Fide rating does not necessarily signify chess strength.

Does Fide have an investigative arm? Does the existence of rogue National Associations not weaken Fide as a whole? Can action be taken at the Asean level, Asian level?

By doing nothing aren't we saying that we are allowing cheating to prosper? Players that come through the back doors should not be honoured. Why should honour be lavished on people with no honour? Players, Officials and Organisers.

ps: I think enforcement against rogue Fide accredited officials should also be considered as a way of improving the image of chess. Another point is to investigate the banning of players without justification in Fide sanctioned tournaments. This will all help to uplift the game and ease our entry into the Olympics where we belong.

Worth a thought or two?
