A sad day for Malaysia

The events of yesterday left me shell shocked and numbed. The burning of churches! I am generally apolitical. I look at issues. If BN has a point, I support it, if PKR has a point, I support that too. But yesterday forced me to stop sitting on the fence. I find myself blaming the leaders who have incited the intolerance. I have told myself for too long that I do not have the inside track, there are 2 sides to a story. But the evidence before me now is such that I cannot afford that luxury anymore. A sad day for Malaysia.

  1. Hi Raymond,

I enjoyed your chess blog very much...but please let it stick to chess. There's thousand of forums blog, website, portal to discuss the sad issue you just mentioned.

I also think that you should not jump into conclusion easily about this issue...there's many party ( inside and outside our country) who happy to see this thing happen in our country..so lets the authority don't their job to investigate.

Let this blog stay focus in chess.

    my sincere suggestion

  2. I think what differentiates FirstGM from other chess blogs is that it DOES comment on important issues that affects us all, otherwise it is just another chess blog. And I believe then that this would narrow its reading audience. If it were to comment on only chess issues it is saying as if chess cannot be applied to other aspects of life. I think chess can be a very powerful tool. Powerful thinking tool. To some extent chess is seen as an elitist game, afterall it was at one time played only by Kings. But I think chess can be and should be taught to a wider audience, starting in primary schools for instance. We all can agree that chess teaches patience and logical, rational thinking, especially under pressure. Something that seems to be seriously lacking today when people use violent means to show their disagreement over difficult issues. It is a very sad day indeed.

  3. Dear Anonymous,

Maybe I wasn't clear. What I meant is that I must use my vote wisely. In the main this blog will cover chess events and so I agree with Adzlin. Some things are just too important for us to turn a blind eye. I hope I have your support on this.

  4. Dear Raymond (and others),

I have 2 things to say

1.Let us agree to disagree. For final say, let us settle it over the chessboard, not through other means.

2.To be a Hero, you need a Villain. (Quote from Mission:Impossible 2 -the Movie) You decide who wants to be the Hero (Juara Rakyat)..
