My full reply to Dato Tan.
Dear Dato,
You asked me at Selangor Open if I thought we will see a time when the entire chess community can be as one. And my reply was yes, but only if one thing occurs.
And that one thing is that there is a proper mechanism for the timely resolution of legitimate issues arising from all the stakeholders in chess.
Please allow me to elaborate here. Having been an official of a State Affiliate myself, I do realise that sometimes parents and chess players do make unreasonable demands. Perhaps it is because they do not fully comprehend how difficult it is to build a strong chess culture with supporting structures. And so some of them unrealistically demand for immediate improvement. It is my belief that those voices will slowly subside when they do see real changes over time.
So that is different. But what I am talking about are legitimate issues like unfair selection criteria, unfair bannings without grounds. What I hear others complaining about is unfair practices and abuse of authority against successful and hard working organisers. And many many more. None of these voices can reach the Authorities in MCF and none of those issues can find resolution. And so the problem festers.
We need to differentiate between one from the other. Between unreasonable and legitimate grievances.
Dato, many people talk to me. Both that support what I have been saying and those that have reservations. Let me address some of the issues that were brought up to me by people who are not so supportive. I was accused by a State Official of posting slander. This is what I said to him. If you read my posts carefully you will see 3 basic types of postings.
The first is eye witness reports. That means I write about what has happened to me and/or my son or I was in fact a witness to the incident. An eye witness report is not hearsay or slander.
The second type is when I comment on the postings of other bloggers. Those postings are public domain information and fair comment is allowed. That is also not slander.
The third type is my personal opinions. For example my opinion of what I think fair selection should be. That is also not slander.
However some people have used the "reason" that I slander so as to whitewash the many genuine issues that have been brought up by this blog.
Dato, if you go back to my blog I believe you will find that I have adhered to the guidelines I mentioned above. So no slander.
You will also see that I have made many many attempts in the past to solve issues privately via meetings and private correspondence. All to no avail.
It seems to me that the message is this. We can do what we like without reference to your rights as a stakeholder in chess and if you complain then we will just attack your children. Is that the right way Dato?
There is no mechanism to protect our interests and we also cannot highlight or talk about it.
So Dato, how can we unite under these conditions? Can you reasonably expect a parent to stand by and watch his children unfairly attacked without responding? If they think I have slandered them, then sue me if they really think they have any grounds. But taking it out on our children is cowardly and beneath contempt.
Everybody knows that this is what a very few bad apples in MCF and certain State Officials do. It is no secret. They do it very very openly. So please help us to correct these injustices. Those few bad apples is not worth the unity of the entire chess community. Somebody has to stand up for what is right Dato. Don't you think it's about time? My question to you Dato, is will you help us correct the wrongs?
Thank you for your time and for your question to me.

My reply to comments on Jimmy's blog.
Ref: Here.
I think the comment raised by the parent on Jimmy's blog has a very strong point and as such I did not see the need for him to apologise. The fact is my blog is not on the Malaysian chess portal. And so there is no reason for Li Tian to visit my blog at all. The people who do visit my blog are looking for the answers as to why Malaysia is stagnating in the world of chess. So unless Peter himself brought it up to Li Tian, I don't see how Li Tian would know about it.
As for Chin Seng's statement that I have been attacking Li Tian since he was 11, I would like for him to furnish the proof. In fact, if you compare what they have done to Zhuo Ren by forcing him to write that email and the very public and personal attacks on Sumant and Mark directly, I think you will find that there is a qualitative difference between what they do and what I say. I merely show what has been evaluated as suspect games and pairings for the chess public to see and make up their own minds. Take for instance the pairings at the Zonals. Li Tian played black 6 times. This can only happen if there are forced pairings. And usually even forced pairings are done with more finesse than this. To pair a player with an opponent one point higher than you when there are opponents 1/2 point away shows a kind of desperation. Ref: Here.
As to why Li Tian lost the last game and therefore NOT do better than the other Juniors present there, I ask my readers to just look at the time stamp of my post. Yes, I highlighted this anomaly just after the start of the round. And with the whole wide world watching I think a Li Tian win there may probably cause too many waves.
So in essence, I would say that I am reporting suspicious circumstances affecting all of chess generally and in particular the fraud being perpetuated against the entire Malaysian chess community. This is very very different from the personal attacks conducted by Jimmy and friends. I merely ask for an investigation into suspicious circumstances as is within my rights to do.
I trust you can see the difference.
In my next post I will tell you why I think this is happening and what could possibly be the end result. But as a teaser, I will say this now. Their methods will necessarily have to preclude playing in an open and fair selection or the cat will be out of the bag.
Thank you for your time in reading my blog and in trying to understand clearly what is happening. All my best and I hope that in understanding this issue, it will help us chart a course to take Malaysian chess to the next level.

Jimmy, that's not the complete story and Peter, that's a distortion.
Ref: Here.
If we can learn to ignore the venom, we can find some truths in the above post. This is just another one of Jimmy and friends typical avoidance of the real questions and psychological attacks in order to unsettle you and then slip in yet more poison. All this is of course to prevent you from seeing the actual facts. If you find his site too distasteful then lets just focus here on this statement of Jimmy's.
He says there that the Junior's journey is a 100 meter dash. Now is that the case? Lets examine that. Actually that has been the story for sometime in Malaysia. GM by 15 or you are all washed out. This has been said over and over again to our recently ex Juniors or older Juniors for many years now. And this has been a major factor in knocking out many of them.
But the facts say differently. There are players who make GM later in life. I believe a realistic target for Malaysians is in their late 20's given our local conditions. We simply do not have the expertise to do it any sooner here.
But say, Jimmy honestly believes it must be done by 15yo or they are all washed out and I do not. Does that give him the right to attack all and sundry that believes otherwise? Does that justify him attacking Zhuo Ren, Sumant and Mark? Does that justify him taking the place of Eng Chiam and Syazwan?
I admit he did give Zhuo Ren that place to the Olympiads. I can only assume its to try to compensate for the previous attack on him but isn't the damage already done? And was the place his to give in the first place?
Surely if he thinks he is right he can prove it on the board. If he or Peter can really do this then there is no need for the back door is there? Li Tian will just sweep all the other local players before him. Jimmy and Peter's student will be on all the top boards and we will all be lining up to join his classes because he has the secret formula.
Think about it, there is no need for PR campaigns or suspect pairings or suspect games. All will be done in the glare of the light for that will be the best possible publicity for them.
But I chose a different road. I organised the training for our Juniors by a GM. A top Asian GM that is still actively playing. So Jimmy, why did you attack this program if you are genuinely interested in developing the Juniors? There were a few young kids there, some even younger than Li Tian. So why did you not support this event since it will help them although you may think that the older kids there may be wasting their time? Isn't the complete story that you are afraid that this GM may expose you for a fraud and snake medicine seller?
So I find this story more plausible. Only your chosen one can be exposed to more knowledge. Anything or anyone else who wants to progress must be stopped. Especially if they threaten the place of the current senior players who cannot play anymore and is afraid of competition. So this is really the hype to keep you guys relevant. For you cannot really do it can you? Or you will be brandishing Li Tian at all the selections and hammering all and sundry who comes before him. But even that does not prove that you guys can still play. What a dilemma?
Isn't that the truth of the matter? Otherwise why the need to also ban Mark from KL Open without any grounds if you are not worried that your false methods may be exposed? I have my ways and you have yours and we decide who is right on the table. Healthy competition. Chessischess.
And Peter, in your comment to another post on Jimmy's site, that is such a lame attempt to put it all on Li Tian's shoulders. Of course Li Tian himself is above suspicion. Nobody thinks he fixed anything. So man up and face up to the fact that the suspicion is laid upon you. There is just too much suspicious circumstantial evidence that we need to have an investigation to clear the air.
Of course we are also interested in finding the enabler within MCF that allows you fellas to try to con the entire Malaysian chess public; if a Fide investigation does show game fixing. There have been too many victims for too many many years just because you guys want a free ride.
I just don't believe you guys can get a GM by 15yo. You are 50 plus and yet you haven't figured it out for yourselves and are afraid to compete anymore but you still want to take all of Malaysia down the same path with you. You do not even allow us to train or learn under under a real GM even if you say you think I can have no opinion because I do not "play chess". You need to attack all, my former partner and even the sponsors.
The real question is why are you so afraid of someone you say cannot play chess? Where were your players placed at NJ and why can't Li Tian beat Roshan, Eng Chiam and Syazwan here during NC? On what basis do you say that he is the strongest Junior and so can avoid selection and still play for the Country for non age group events?
Is making Li Tian a Jimmy and Peter clone good for him? That is of course a question only Chin Seng can answer. But his decision cannot be at the cost of every other player in Malaysia who believes in healthy competition.
Lets meet on the board and play chess. There is no need for the back doors is there? After all I only have one player left. And as you say he has stalled. Should be like stealing candy from a boy yes and you even get to keep the entrance fees? So why all this twisting and turning? See you guys at NC. Otherwise you may find that the joke is on you.

I would like to thank Jimmy for highlighting Mark's weak game.
Ref: Here.
Thank you Jimmy for highlighting Mark's weak game at NJ although we have already taken note of it and working out the solution even as we speak. That is the point of the Junior's game isn't it? Gaps in their knowledge. But if they are to continue to work on their weaknesses they will continue to improve and one day soon be able to take on the senior players like Mas and Yee Weng in chess. Unless they are knocked out by the type of psychological attacks you are now famous for conducting, of course.
But out of curiosity I wonder why you didn't put up your own student's game with Mark or for that matter Peter's student? I do have those games with me but I wouldn't subject them to this sort of public attack. It is not my intention to embarrass anyone. So this begs the question of why I put up Li Tian's game doesn't it? And I will answer that question here. But let me first address some other minor points.
With regards to the Zonals, I wrote to Casto Abundo, the chief arbiter at the Zonals about entry requirements. He told me that the PSC Championship (where Kian Hwa played) was Open but the Zonals needs MCF's endorsement. So there is a contradiction in both Peter's and your assertion that the Zonals was Open too. So why that blatant lie? What are you trying to hide from the chess community?
Actually it is precisely because of the weaknesses I found in the few remaining lines that Mark plays that I decided not to apply for the endorsement from MCF. I felt the time would be better spent working out the kinks here.
So the question that was asked to you from one of your anonymous comments still stands.
So back to the Li Tian question. Firstly I never claimed Mark to be the strongest Junior. But I note his achievements accurately. He was NJ and U18 no.2 in 2010, NJ no.4 in 2011 and NJ no.6 in 2012. I am in no hurry for him to rush his chess. I am satisfied with his journey so far taking into consideration the realities of Junior chess where they have to balance many other priorities.
So why did I bring up Li Tian's game? You see, Li Tian's journey is very different. Li Tian's journey comes from a claim of strongest Junior without ever winning a Junior tournament. His journey is based on dubious numbers and an equally dubious PR campaign with dubious games.
His journey was made at this cost to the Malaysian chess community. In order to promote Li Tian, you attacked the National training for the Juniors given by FGM, you attacked my partner at the time, you attacked our sponsor. Li Tian's bypassing of selection was bought at the cost of you attacking Zhuo Ren, attacking Sumant and Mark all because we tried to provide training for SEA games selection. And Sumant actually had the audacity to win without your approval. Li Tian and you stole the place to the Olympiads from the players who did well at the Olympiad selection, Eng Chiam and Syazwan's place.
Now why is it important for me to bring up this topic apart from the fact I will not allow you or anybody else to steal Mark's dreams and aspirations from him? It is up to him to decide whether he wants to pursue chess or not. Not you or Peter.
So let me also tell you the current realities. A major hot topic now is that there is a racist agenda in selection. It was first raised after Li Tian's sponsorship to China and which I defended Li Tian against that accusation. But this accusation is becoming more and more widespread and strident since the Olympiads. So I try to show on my blog, that it is not racism. You simply attack anything or anyone red, white or yellow who stands in your way to the free trips playing for Malaysia. You and Peter attack anyone you feel may be an impediment to your chosen one's back door entry or may lose to in a real tournament.
Now this is a cost too heavy for our chess community to bear. More so now that some of Li Tian's tauted big wins are suspect and he cannot even stand against local players in selection but need the back doors. We want our children to be able to play chess and be selected to progress based on their chess understanding and not to be subjected to your politics.
It is also my strong belief that if these accusations of racism is not addressed and a fair selection process introduced then ALL of us will face future repercussions created by you and your supporters actions.
And it is not easy Jimmy, try as I might to reason with them that this is not the case, some of them seem to apply your non ability to reason out this issue.
We all know that Li Tian is strong baring the times he plays openings he is not familiar with as we can also see from the Zonals just like most of our other top Juniors. Yes, I had a full SWOT briefing this morning. But this is the how the game is played isn't it? Normal stuff. We are just benchmarking ourselves against the "strongest" Junior in Malaysia.
And we also know that some of the Fide ratings in Malaysia are not accurate but cooked. We too have been invited to those sessions but we declined the invitation. I am happy with the number that best describes Mark's journey in Open and tough tournaments. I don't like artificial anything.
A last point. From the games Li Tian played at the Zonals, I think he will have a very tough time winning his place at selection to SEA games. Even from the last NJ and the tournament we recently played in Penang, the Juniors have moved up a few notches during the time we took our one year sabbatical for STPM. I think even the coaches in Penang will run rings around you and Peter should you "guys" ever dare to play in a selection again. Face facts, you guys are now dinosaurs. You are far far far behind the times. Let's meet at NC this year if you want to prove me wrong. Like I have said before, you can bring Peter, Mok and even Li Tian along this time so you guys can play tag team. I don't mind. It's just chess. Chessischess.
And if even that is not enough for you, you can choose the arbiter too. You know who I mean. I don't mind. Chessischess.
Or are you hoping to swindle the same free entries for SEA games again this year, without having to play selection and with the use of The President's choice?

Fyi, I know that you and Mok were busy taking down Mark's games at NJ. So there is no need to say you got the games from "someone". I have no problems with that. In fact I took it as a compliment since the both of you spent 3 whole days there doing just that. Take whatever edge you need.
A last point. From the games Li Tian played at the Zonals, I think he will have a very tough time winning his place at selection to SEA games. Only a pawn in their game.
Jimmy and Peter's response to my last post is a timely reminder of the problems we have before us. Here.
Please note that it is a very toxic site but I think that if we cannot see past their modus operandi then we may be in stall for another 30 years of oblivion. So brace yourself while reading their response before we try to carefully dissect what is happening here.
Now I have always maintained that I wish Li Tian well. Does this still hold true after my last post? Let us try to see this clearly. In my posting below did I say that Li Tian fixed the games? Have I not always said that it is his adult handlers that I am suspicious of? And have I not mentioned in the past that parents can be intimidated to do very strange things in Malaysian chess?
So I do not think that Li Tian fixed his games. If anything the suspicion must lie with his handlers. Now why would I say so? What evidence do I have? No solid evidence right? As I have also said before, solid evidence can only be gotten with the authority of Fide or MCF. Solid evidence needs to be presented at the AGM of MCF like the accounts for instance.
But we do have loads of circumstantial evidence. Now apart from the suspect games, can we say that the people who think they can represent Malaysia through a fraudulent selection may have little compunction about fixing matches? Can we say that the people who influenced Zhuo Ren into writing that nasty email, the people who attacked Sumant after he won his selection for SEA games may have the mind set to also fix games?
I have suggested in one of my past postings that it is possible for a deal to be made behind closed doors between players or in this case maybe on behalf of the player without even his knowledge. All of these things have been speculated for sometime now. There were even allegations that they were fixing the pairings during the last Datmo when Li Tian met Mok on the last round. And I have even written about it and suggested ways that an audit can be done.
All of these things have been brought up but the authorities have yet to act. And when they do act it is to try and intimidate the innocent people like they have done to Megat for example.
I also can't understand Peter's allegations that I have affected Li Tian's game in the Zonals. My blog is not on the Malaysian chess portal and only my readers come here to see my opinions on current matters. Also in all the time I have been with the players during tournaments we have never had the time to look at blogs as we have been too busy preparing or resting.
So how would Li Tian know about it unless Peter told him? And besides, shouldn't Peter have clarified to Li Tian that he has nothing to worry about in case he misunderstood by explaining that it is "Uncle Peter" that I am suspicious of. How not to suspect a trainer who bans without grounds players better than the ones he can produce? It seems to be consistent with his nature?
Honestly I have not seen any real concern that both Jimmy and Peter have shown for anyone outside of themselves and their desperate attempts to cling to relevance, power and influence.
Funnily enough this case could be upset down. Don't they know how much anger and resentment is now directed towards Li Tian because of the way they have done things? If you recall, I had defended Li Tian over the sponsorship to China amidst much rancour. I know how volatile things are and how much anger is just below the surface. People are so angry that I am even attacked when I congratulated MCF on a good calender. Here.
Think about it. One of the big problems we need to contain is this misdirected anger. Why do you think I said this? Here.
Actually it is them that are putting Li Tian in the firing line and in possible harms way. But in their selfish ambitions they cannot even see that. Look at how they treat everyone else. Don't you have enough examples? Now why would you think Li Tian is any different to them. He is only a pawn in their game.
Is it clearer now?
And they use the type of attack that you see on Jimmy's blog so very very few people would dare to question them openly. So it's a ticking time bomb. And we are seeing the same tactics applied in the fight going into AGM. I hear new stories almost everyday and if even half of it is true then this could also be an election gimmick. But those stories are for later. And the pawn they are willing to sacrifice are the players. If I read the game correctly, ultimately both Peter and Jimmy would be sacrificed too. As far as I am concerned I believe they will both deserve it. But Li Tian is just another innocent.
So yes there is suspicion of match fixing. And it looks to me that Peter may be involved. It is my hope that Fide will look into this since even the Secretary is of the opinion that the games are suspicious in his reply email to me.
In conclusion let me say this very clearly. I would like to see Li Tian play in a clean and fair selection with clear criteria and celebrate any wins he has without the suspicion of fixed games and without back door entries. For that to remain unresolved will sully the reputation of Malaysian chess. This is very important to defuse the growing anger within the Malaysian chess community.
If he is as strong as they claim then he will not need those crutches and will be able to prove it on the table. The same goes for every other chess player in Malaysia. This is also for the personal dignity of all our players.

Reply to Peter Long.
Ref in comments here.
Dear Peter
Thank you for publishing the first part of your reply email to the list of officials kept informed of the current situation of Malaysian chess on Jimmy's blog. That is very considerate of you.
So let me address your point of you being copied. It is normal courtesy to copy the person that you are writing about. The proper protocol to want to stop further mailings is to request by return email not to be copied anymore. This is what your Najib did and his email was removed from another list for instance. But you have never done that. Yes, I do read some of your comments on Jimmy's blog from time to time. But as you know Jimmy's blog is full of toyols so I do not have the time to authenticate if it is really you or just looks like you and sound dumb like you. But since I think it could be really you this time please consider your email removed from that list.
To the real Peter wherever you are. In case someone has impersonated you and you are offended by your removal from the list, please write in directly to me and I will add you back on ok?
So that is you. About Jimmy, there is no need to email him. First of all I do not know his email and I really can't be bothered to find out. He is just someone who has cheated the entire chess community and grabbed a place on the Malaysian squad by fraud. So nobody significant. But what is really the point of including him anyway? Jimmy is one of my most avid readers. Sometimes he stays up nights just to read my blog. I am sure if he really wanted to be included on the list he would have written to me directly. Is that point answered Peter, or do you want me to explain again in simpler English?
As for the rest, they also can use the normal protocol and ask to be removed if and when they so wish. But what tickles me Peter is how do you know that Fide or ACF is not talking to me? I hear that there are Fide development funds involved that is not accounted for. There are ACF funds involved that is not accounted for etc etc etc. So are they not on a need to know basis? And why have they not asked to be removed? Can't you even do any abc level thinking anymore Peter?
And how do you know that Dato or any of the rest isn't reading my emails or talking to me? That is why I keep telling you guys to just speak for yourself. The rest are all big boys and girls. Not like you and Jimmy.
I am looking forward to being invited to the MCF AGM to answer all these questions and address the slander that you and Jimmy have been using so freely because you think certain people in MCF will protect you as they have done for all these years. But my friend, I think this time they themselves could be on trial soon and may be too busy to help you guys any further.
Do read my upcoming posts on this blog Peter or whoever you are. That is my best advice to you if you do not want to go down with them too. I would be more worried about who they might implicate when the chips are down if I were you.
It is not so nice when the people you guys attack can defend themselves yes Peter and Jimmy? You are too used to bullying children and frightened parents for too many many years now. Now I think you are beginning to see what it is like on the receiving end yes?
Why are you so scared that people are following what you guys are doing? Have you done anything wrong? I sure hope you can substantiate the allegations on your email to my list Peter. You know who is reading right?
Note: I think this will be a really interesting case as Peter is suggesting using the law etc. I really would like to see this case, of the thief running to the police for action as the victim refuses to be robbed, happening. Or the gangsters running to the cops because their victims refuses to be intimidated. So, so so so dumb. What has your type of chess done to you guys?
All my best.

More twisting is not going to get you off the hook.
Ref: Here
Getting written statements by misleading Zhuo Ren that he can get a place at SEA games because of a deal does not count for denial that my training took place. Attacking Sumant all over the place and lead by your blog and finally the perceived threats to his place on the squad to get him to say I am not his coach when he has been coming to my place for over 2 years for training is not something you should be proud of. It just shows that you know how to manipulate and intimidate young boys.
Picking on the one mistake that Mark made as a young boy and calling him names show what a low life you really are. Yes, he wanted to submit the result and yes the arbiter confronted him and yes he then told the truth when he could have lied. Wanting to do and doing is two very different things. That makes him a man in my eyes. Nobody great I know of have not made mistakes. But it takes a man to own up to his mistakes.
For the full story. Here.
Is that all you have? That one speck compared to your logs? You are a very sorry excuse of a human being Jimmy. Is that why you are so afraid of a proper selection?
What I am really saying to you Jimmy, in case you didn't catch it, is try your tricks on me. Leave the kids alone.
Btw: Case #2 is a total fabrication. Half truths and total lies. And heart of a champion was a tribute to the unbroken fighting spirit of all the juniors in that play off. Something I am sure you have no clue of.
Deep down inside, is that not the real reason why you try to break them. They have something you lost a long time ago.

Dear Man-in-the-dark,
This is in response to a posting on both Gilocatur Fan Club and Malaysian Chess Team. Both are chess groups on facebook. So this is to summarise as well as add a few points to our debate there.
Dear Man-in-the-dark,
1)To tell you the truth, at first I thought you are a change of fresh air to Msian Chess - a man who can speak his mind AND act too. But when you can't follow-through with your actions, and instead expecting others to act on your behalf, you stopped being our beacon of hope, and turned out to be just another shout in the dark. You are also having a field day criticizing other opposing views, yet cannot stand even a single critique. Man, have you heard of 'those living in glass houses shouldn't throw stones'?
My reply: I submit that the fact that I constantly refer to the sites and specific postings that have the opposing "views" says very loudly that I am not averse to criticism. On the converse they selectively cut and paste my postings to distort and manipulate opinions. My point is why allow the trash to be posted on my site when my readers are pointed to the original source to read if they want.
Note: My work speaks for itself. It is patently obvious so you just need to open your eyes. No further explanation should be necessary. You are a chess player. The ability to observe should be part of your skill set.
2)Next you'll say we are no different. Our answer is short and simple ; we are chess players. That is our Locus Standi.
You also repeatedly (and bitterly) said "..thank you for standing up and telling us who you really are.." we really hope you haven't said that as we don't want to choose sides. But if we have to, we will choose the one with the Lesser Evils.
My reply: I think it is also patently obvious that I represent chess players too. Otherwise I would not have the readership I have, otherwise I would not be kept in the loop of what is happening on the ground, otherwise I would not have people giving me information of what is happening in MCF or done the research on COS for me. So you do represent a side. My side is the one that does not practice discrimination between rich or poor; race, colour, religious or political beliefs; those with or without political power. All we look for is if you can play chess and if you can, and believe that our methods can help you, we try to provide the training as evidenced by all the work FGM has done to date. We do not attack you if you prefer the Jimmy method but we always reserve the right to defend ourselves. If you also look carefully we do not open new doors but we will go down the door you have opened if we so choose. Think on it. So which side are you on?
Ergo we seek an environment free from politics and intimidation and one where all chess players can play chess according to the rules and if you are good then you deserve to represent the Country. So which is the greater evil?
3)You have good ideas, though, such as Competitive Analysis. This is necessary for all our competing players, and I can understand your need to keep it secretive as your own "Industry Secret" and I respect that. Next, you'll say you had shared it during your 'training sessions'. Yes, that's exactly what we meant.
My reply: I think I have shared freely with you in our debate. And I have expanded by explaining further my understanding of competitor analysis. I have given sources to read in the past and I write constantly about it. So where is the secret? I do not keep secrets. My locus standi is that it is about you. You go as far as what you put in.
4)But in all honesty, we have to tell you this, your picking on our longtime patriot is getting on our nerves. He doesn't need our backing up, yet in recognition of his National Services, we really appreciate what the Old Soldier have done, as he has served his time, sacrificed his skills and resources for puny returns for the love of the game. However, as you have been barking up the wrong tree, you have lost many supporters, except those who have a bone to pick with the Central Body.
My reply: I do not dispute his past contributions but that was a long time ago. And there are still doubts as to his claim of being Asia's best. That claim got so convoluted that most have turned off. For me if there is truth then no need to pusing pusing. Actually my feedback is that I have gained many additional supporters. Especially after the selection fiasco. Many more can see now. And I don't rely on secondary feedback from stats and responses. I also go to the ground to check if my assumptions are correct or not. But of course there are still a few detractors who have benefited from the gross injustices. We are counting them now. (Don't take that as a threat. This is election year. Counting is normal for all sides). They can just snatch the place of someone who has won their place in selection and they can get their hands on the money given to MCF by sponsors and Fide. I can understand why they support this system. What is your reason?
5)However, we would also appreciate it if you can give our Olympiad 2012 team a break. They need the time for their preparations and not another unnecessary fight with you. Let's stop undermining their confidence, and if you really need to attack them, do it after their return. (But I failed to see the point).
My reply: If someone has snatched the food from your baby's mouth, if someone has robbed your house, do you still cheer them on? I do not support this team but as I have said, I also wish them no ill. But they do need to open their eyes to their selfishness and the harm they are causing Malaysian chess. And I also trust my own evaluation and analysis. I don't think this team is strong. People who need the back doors are usually not strong. But by all means cheer this team if you want. Note: Not supporting and wishing them ill are two separate things.
Only time will tell whether you are just another storm in the teacup or a tsunami. My bet is that you are just another disgruntled parent who is frustrated with the System and doesn't want to work with it.
My reply: Agreed. A theory is only of any use if it can predict. Do you have a science base? Do you know how a theory is formed? Briefly it is built from suppositions. And then it is tested by its ability to predict. My interest in this matter is not as a parent. My son did not play at NC2012. My interest in this matter is as the owner of a chess academy that have done training for Malaysia in the past and have seen the victimisation and sabotage that goes on.
Oh, don't bother about me, I'm just another chess player, one who have nothing to lose, yet I hope for the best for Msian Olympiad 2012.
My reply: I wish the best for Malaysian chess and I do believe that one day we too can send a strong team out. But we need to change things here first. 30 plus years of making the same mistake over and over again is not going to cut it. Think about it. I suggest you give some respect to those chess players who are fed up of being hammered when they go out there to play for Malaysia, fed up of their place being taken by weaker players. You can support the Jimmy method if you want. The boundary is crossed if you harass us because we do not believe in his method.
I also submit that your choice of title is a misnomer. I have always written in the open and never behind anonymous blogs or comments. I put my name to everything I say. To me that shows my integrity. And if you go right back to the very beginning of my blog, my stand has always been consistent. I do not keep changing my tune.
Thank you for your time in engaging me on this matter. I did enjoy our debate and you have displayed some ability to discern. But I think you do need to open your eyes wider. Change your perspective. You may be confusing light from dark.

Reply to Mamak Chess again.
Ref: Here.
Thank you for your clarification. Perhaps it would be good for you to say who you are. Normally I do not engage anonymous people but I have made it an exception in your case since you bring up a much debated issue long after the debate has been completed.
And I also see that you may be trying to deflect from 2 very important issues before us today. And those are the issues of selection and the upcoming MCF AGM.
This begs the question if you are trying to part of the solution or part of the problem.
As far as I know Mamak gang is part of the Kelantan group and so I asked about it since you also use part of their name in your blog. Why ask racial questions? Have I not stood on issues irrespective of race? Do I keep quiet if the case is about Jimmy or Greg? So please do not muddy the water anymore.
We need to focus on issues that affect all Malaysians. We are talking about right and wrong. We are talking about decisions that can take us forward and decisions that will keep us lost for another 30 years. And we are talking about chess.
So I will say a little more. Sumant had been training with us for some time already. Nearly 2 years. And if you had followed closely, he never denied this right until Malaysian Open 2011. And that was only when his mother could no longer take the attacks on her son.
And so you cannot see the power of intimidation. In finality we saw that the intimidation also came from MCF. I think that was the straw that broke the camel's back. Logically, can it be that Sumant came to train Mark for SEA games selection? Mark was not in the selection.
If you look even closer you will see that Jun Feng was not on the list of qualifiers. But Greg stopped at Jun Feng and then brought in someone from the outside the criteria.
A piece of new information. Both the boys signed an enrollment form to join FGM which I still have. But this has always been my stand. I never allow my players to go against their parents. So if the mother objects, it is case closed for me as far as them being my students. But I can still talk about my training. Can you understand the difference?
As for Zhuo Ren, that was his first time with us. So he joined and then he changed his mind. That is OK. But you do not see that it can also be intimidation. If you follow the timeline, his email to Jimmy came directly after going home from my place. So mere hours apart. Doesn't this suggest that there is the possibility that he may have been used for just that purpose? We cannot see into anyone's mind but we can learn to reason.
But all this is water under the bridge. We cannot change the past but we can still make decisions today that can change our future. I still believe that the boys will one day tell the truth. But this cannot be from my instigation. This must be because they feel and believe that that is the right thing to do. In my eyes, that will also be the day they become men and true Champions.
So you have my answer Mamak Chess. If you want to engage me further then please state your name. For all I know you could be the same anonymous person that writes on Jimmy's blog. And I think most of it is him anyway. Does this make sense? Is that logik?
ps: I think the best way to settle this debate is to stop the intimidation of parents and players; have proper selection and stop the attempts at banning. Then we will see if FGM's methods are rubbish or not. No need to debate anymore. Let the chess board decide. Is that logik too Mamak Chess? Do you support this solution? Don't you want that chance to show my methods do not work? And from a non chess player but one who knows how to think? Don't you want the chance to prove me wrong in the only way all chess players can accept? On the board.
A very good way to start is if you support good selection criteria. Maybe you have a method, maybe somebody else has a better method. But the only way to prove it is on the board. Isn't that also logik? So can we see your next posting as one that supports the refutation of FGM on the chess board instead of all this mud slinging? Do you agree? Please see below.

Reply to Mamak Chess.
Ref: Here.
I think this is a very one sided posting. I have answered to all of the quotes you have used. A fair discussion is one that you also show my replies to the relevant quotes. Do you do your chess training in the same manner? Or do you look at all sides of an argument before you make up your mind?
So my question to you is does chess in Malaysia make our kids smart or have we gone terribly wrong somewhere? Going with your example of reasoning my conclusion must be we have lost our way.
So if you don't mind, I won't bother with replying you in the future. I prefer to talk about the coming selection criteria for the Olympiads and the possible challenge for the top post of MCF.
I think we are now at a cross road. What we do about these 2 issues will determine whether we progress or we loose many more years defending something that is so obviously wrong. In my mind at least.
Btw, you have yet to reply to this query of mine. Ref: Here. The answer to this question may help us understand if you are in fact bought or you are just unable to reason.
Thank you for your time and sudden interest in this case. But it has already been debated and concluded by many some time back.

My reply to Yeoh Chin Seng.
Please refer to comments. Here.
Dear Chin Seng,
You have a right to your own opinion having brought up a strong chess player in Li Tian. I do not think any player disputes his strength.
But I wonder who you mean by the chess community. Jimmy, Peter, Najib or that person who hides his identity behind the pseudonym Chess Ninja?
Lets not talk about Jimmy, he has raised no one and is about to be retired. Peter now has his best student in Roshan so he has some credibility for that accomplishment. Maybe he can speak with more authority if he raises Roshan to greater heights. But I have my doubts he can do that.
As for Najib, he calls himself a trainer but has yet to even bring up anyone we have heard of. So all he can justifiably claim is that he plays some kind of chess. He can also claim to be an arbiter but also not a very professional one as we saw in NJ 2010 where he left the selection in disarray by not showing up during the play off and leaving unclear criteria.
Is that the sum total of your community? The ones that is being destroyed? I hope you won't mention the anonymous comments. Agree?
So let me tell you about the rest of us. Let me tell you about the ones who don't agree with your selfish attempts to bring in Li Tian via the backdoor.
Lets start with the sponsorship given by Dato Tan. There were many angry words spoken about that by others in the community. They see Dato Tan as the Honorary President of MCF and not as a private individual. At that time I defended the sponsorship by viewing it as a private event. But others did not think so and still do not.
The first time you turned your back on me was in NJ 2010 after Li Tian's disappointing performance. But that is just chess. The kids perform in spurts. This year Li Tian is doing well and Mark has his STPM. So what's the rush? Sponsorship?
Then why didn't you let him play SEA games selection or National Junior last year? Isn't that the proper way?
I know there were attempts to bring Li Tian in for SEA games via the backdoor and you were upset when we brought in selection.
You may not realise this since your chess community consist of those few people. But this is one of the reasons why there is serious talk about challenging for the top post.
And some of the things said are not very rational either. Anger begets anger and injustice begets injustice.
So what happens to the rest of us who wants to play clean chess in this drama of action and reaction? Would we become collateral damage as a result of your selfish action?
Chin Seng, you are inside a very small minority of cronies. Don't talk about the community. You have no clue what is going on and the people you have pissed off.
And don't for a second think that Jimmy and his cronies belligerence is going to intimidate anyone. It may have worked before but not in today's world.
I have been told time and time again the same thing chess ninja posted on the link above. Do you guys really think we are stupid just because you have learnt how to cut and paste?
That is why I suggest we use clear selection criteria in a proper tournament. That will be better for all. You can see this too if you can get rid of your God complex.
Neither you nor Jimmy and his cronies can tell the rest of the chess community who should represent Malaysia. That is not your right. The only right you have is to your own opinion of your son.
Just like I have the right to my opinion.

My reply to Jimmy.
Ref: Here.
Yes Jimmy, I've heard your arguments before. Zhuo Ren also believed it. I am merely offering an alternative view. Luckily for us Sumant gave my methods the benefit of the doubt.
I have written extensively on how one can fatten ratings just for show. We are not interested in that. FGM is only interested in meeting fat cows in tournament in a clean fight.
We have seen the results from SEA games selection. And we will prove it again and again in tournaments. Isn't that the best way to see who is right? Or is that too much for you and your friend, Peter Long, to stomach?
As for the results for NJ 2011, I make no apology. Mark met Aaron in the final round. A draw would have seen him in second place.
But even as I was having breakfast with Aaron's mum while the boys were playing and she explained the training Aaron was receiving in China, I had the feeling that we had no answers at that time to that sort of training.
So Mark lost and came in 5th. We fully accept the result. It was an honour to lose to superior training in a clean fight. And we look forward to the rematch.

Thank you Eddy for your post.
Ref: Here.
Thank you for reminding me of Association politics. It's been a while. Lets put this in context. I had only just joined the committee of PICA after losing the election for President to Chan by one vote.
Note: I take that to mean that nearly half of PICA membership voted for my agenda.
My platform as delivered in my speech before the election was for change. The need to stop match fixing and to bring PICA back into the national main stream. Up to that time there were only a few Perakians who played at National Close and Merdeka Team event. And we had no presence in NAG or National Junior.
So yes one of the first things we deliberated at the selection committee which comprised of me as Chair, Zaki Mahmud (PT Perak) and Chan (President) was how to encourage Perakians to enter the national main stream again.
All those names were submitted among others to be considered but Sumants name was not there. So I suppose you brought this up for your own motive and this is not about the Sumant case.
Anyway there were no dispute over the names except for Mat Zaki Yeop. It was argued that he should not be included. I argued in his defence saying that he was the only Perakian that flew the Perak flag for many years when there were zero Perak representation. And I felt he should be rewarded for his loyalty to the State since he had done that for years on his own dime.
Yit San was also passed by the committee. So that made up the 4 names.
I know this is a far cry from what you are used to when one man made all the decisions and as a parent you are unable to see beyond your personal bias. The submitted names were deliberated on and we presented our arguments and reasons to the committee members. But the final decision was unanimous.
So what is your point? That I over stepped my authority? I only argued for one person and that was Mat Zaki Yeop and yes maybe his inclusion was because I convinced the other 2 members. Isn't that how a committee is supposed to work?
But let me say here what I would have done if Mark's name was the one in dispute, which it was not. I would have walked out of the room and allowed the other 2 members to make the decision.
I think you are just trying to manipulate this situation for your own ends. And that is despicable.
Aren't you being disrespectful to Zaki Mahmud and Chan by saying they were manipulated?
Are you saying that your opinion supersede all of ours? God complex? Are you saying that your knowldege of chess and its development outstrips all of us? Then why didn't you join the committee? You joined and quit and joined and quit again and again.
Aren't you trying to use Mrs Demudu misunderstanding to sow more discord? Sumant's name was never in and nobody had any part in removing his name.

Dear Mrs Demudu.

Dear Mrs Demudu,
I regret your posting on Jimmy's blog. For that forces me to answer you here.
If you read my postings carefully you will see that I am not attacking Sumant. I have acknowledged many times in my postings that he was the one that helped Mark in the beginning. For example, Ref: Here.
Sumant was with me for around 4 to 5 days for SEA games training. And during that time your husband was consulted every step of the way. I have asked him and Sumant to speak to you and explain what we did but I guess that didn't take place. But that is your internal affair.
If you want the truth of the matter do speak to Sumant and ask him if what I said is true or not.
Anyway about the matter of him not being selected by PICA, I have explained to you many times but I will do so again here. When I am an official of an Association I do not play favoritism. I was one of 3 members of the selection committee (although I was the Chairman) and Sumants name was not tabled as he was not considered by them to be a Perak player.
I do not bring my personal favorites in just because I can. That would be an abuse of authority. I do not operate that way. The list of names were tabled by the other 2 committee members and I just made sure that we deliberated the names on the list as best we can.
My point to you and other parents who seem offended by my stance is that there is no need for the backdoor. If your child is good he will make it on merit. One of the reasons why our players do not do well in International arenas is because of the intervention of well meaning parents who want easy entries for their child. This fosters corruption among the officials. I hope you can understand.
I have explained as best I can about what happened at our training and what happened after as is within my rights and I will not mention it again.
All my best to you and family.
PS: Please note the difference between a public official as in PICA and FGM which is a legal private entity. Both of which confer different rights and different responsibilities. During my time in PICA, FGM was not in existence.

My reply to Najib's latest post.
Here.
I think my reply there has been blocked so lets do the debate here.
The problem with MCF as I have said before is that it has never done things the right way before and so maybe they don't know what the right thing is. Lets see what will happen after this debate.
From Najib's own description it shows that you only get projects directly from the Secretaries of MCF (past and present). Now is that right? What is the actual role of the secretary? I propose that the Secretary of MCF is supposed to execute the guidelines and policies of the full committee of MCF. That is why we have the committee. The secretary is not MCF. This is a major distortion. Think about it. What is the job of a secretary?
Some of us have suggested many times that the projects be tendered out by a fair and impartial tender committee that chooses the best proposal.
Why do you think the committee has never met to discuss such important policies and guidelines so far? In fact why was it only in 2011 that we have had written selection?
There is a reason why NGO's are not allowed to make profits by law. And there is a reason why private organisers are allowed to make profits. Isn't this the same scenario that is causing the hue and cry across Malaysia? People who go into goverment not to govern but to put their hands into project funds. Isn't that corruption? Is that the same reason why people covet the post of Secretary of MCF?
And I don't only mean financial corruption.
In the past was it the best players who represented the Country? Or was it the people who was in favour who got the opportunity? Isn't that corruption again. What do you think that has done to the fighting spirit of our players? Now that we have written selection, how long do you think those players will last? The ones who need the backdoors.
How will the projects be parcelled out if the best tenders win? Will some organisers bite the dust because they cannot write proper proposals that define who earns what? And will not good organisers rise in the wake? Najib, you say you do not want others to steal the benefit of your work. Havent you been doing that yourself?
When I pushed for fair selection I was accused of doing it to benefit my son. I failed to see the logic. Is that the depth of their thinking? How on earth does my son benefit from that??!!!
Now that I am asking for a transparent system of tendering and for MCF to play their proper role as facilitators, Jimmy is accusing me of trying to put people in to benefit me. Does he know Mr Lee and Zuhri to accuse them of this? How does this benefit me directly? And how does this destroy MCF? Are you losing it Jimmy?
Doesn't Mr Lee's or Zuhri's track record speak for themselves. Don't you think they know what a secretary is supposed to do? Aren't their combined knowledge better than someone who don't know anything about chess and cannot control his own secretary?
So who actually benefits from the current system?
Any payment to MCF officials directly constitutes corruption. I have said that MCF should organise their own events. There should be enough money to pay them if they organise national events like NAG, National Junior and National Close since players play and pay for the honour of playing for Malaysia and not for prize money. Combined with endorcement fees from big events by private organisers this should be sufficient. If not there is still National rapid and blitz to consider.
Note: I am sure there will be people willing to do national service for purely MCF events so expenses can be very minimum.
But keep your hands off private ventures. Do not interfere or hinder. Do not try to grab what is not yours.
I suggest that the people who support the current system are people who want the backdoor in. To play for the country without having to compete or to get their hands on projects they didn't work for. (Did you read what Greg said to me when I said I was looking at doing an International project for Perak?)
They want it the easy way. No need to compete. That too is corruption isnt it? Corruption of the fighting spirit. Could this be the real reason why we have slipped so far behind? I have heard a rumour debated on facebook that the National Close has been postponed. Is that true? Why would that be? I am curious.
Isn't chess about competition? Can we really play chess if we are afraid to compete? And what are these people who are so afraid to compete doing in a competitive mind sport?
So what is your relationship with MCF again, Najib? Do you even know the implications of what you are saying? When will you mature Najib? You say you wrote on this in 2003 and you still havent figured it out yet.
ps: And so the illusions work again. In finality lets ask this rather strange question after all I said. Did you really benefit Najib? You seem just as lost now as 2003. Did you benefit Jimmy from this system that you defend so hard? Or have you lost much more than you gained. Who actually benefited? Can you name someone? Funny isn't it...how life works. Is that why you laugh?

The Malaysian Team at Merdeka rapid.
Ref: Here.
There seems to be no end to this man's hypocricy. At merdeka rapid, I was informed by Greg before he went to China that there was an MCF sponsored Malaysian Team fielded. And this team was open to the SEA games players.
We were not intending to play at Teams as we wanted to head back home to do our postmortem after a long and tiring trip.
However when I saw Sumant he told me that he did not have a Team. Anyway to cut a long story short, this sponsored "Malaysian SEA games Team" ended up with Jimmy, Mok, Li Tian and Soon Wai Cheong. I asked Ismail Ahmad who was the team manager to check up what was happening. He told me that he spoke to Mok and Mok did not want Sumant on the team.
So I got together Kaushal, Justin and Mark to form a team around Sumant as it was not good for his psyche not to have a team. This is how much Jimmy cares and now he tries to twist again. I spoke to Greg on this recently and he told me he felt so bad that he paid RM100 to Sumant to reimburse him. Actually we all paid our share of the entrance fee.
So my advice to Sumant still is to avoid Jimmy at SEA games if possible as rejection and more mind games there would not be good for him. Jimmy is poison. It's as simple as that.
Note: Avoid if possible is not the same as treat with animosity. That I have never advocated for that will mean we lower ourselves to his level. As the junior there Sumant may find himself in need of advice and guidance. At that time I believe Yee Weng is the better person to approach. The type of advice Jimmy gives can be found from the Zhuo Ren example.
With reference to Mok saying he doesnt want Sumant on the team, I wonder why he has such a voice in a team meant for our SEA games athletes. Surely Jimmy and Sumant should have more say in this matter. If that had happened, it would have shown us Jimmy's team spirit.
With reference to Sumant getting into trouble with me, he knows me better than that. My opinions are always offered with my reasoning. I never force anyone to accept my arguments. All I ask is that they treat the opinion with consideration and not knee jerk reactions.

FGM response to NM Lim Zhuo Ren
Ref: Here.
Dear Zhuo Ren
I have just returned from KL this evening and as you know I have been there since Saturday morning. So I am rather surprised to hear that I have deleted your comments on my blog. I only heard about your email this morning and called you to find out what the issues were. You first denied writing anything and when pressed you said you posted your email on my blog. I checked later in the morning but there is nothing there. In fact I only found your email on Jimmy's site. So its rather puzzling to me that you do not even know where you posted your comments.
But assuming it was a cyber glitch and your emails on my blog did get deleted by a ghost; I wonder why you didnt just call me to say you have changed your mind? There was no compulsion for you to fill in the enrolment form to join FGM.
You told me that you are not attacking me this morning but dont you think that email on Jimmy's site is an attack? So let me clarify a few things here. First of all it was you who called me to ask if you can join with Sumant who was coming to my house for training.
And your enrolment with FGM has no bearing to us taking away any credit from Mok or your parents. My post was merely a statement of enrolment and the training at my home. Are you now saying that you did not fill in the form and/or you did not attend the training? Or you are not proud to be a member of FGM? Then why sign up? Why is this subject even brought up?
You joined FGM after hearing about my intended program to support national players in FGM with air tickets to tournaments and also my intention to try to arrange scholarships for those FGM players who do our Country proud by winning medals among other initiatives being planned.
FGM's sponsors are with us without knowing who you are and have been with us well before you attended my training as my guest (on your request) and well before you enrolled. So how are you helping Malaysian Chess to get sponsors again?
It is FGM that is giving support to players from our business contacts and not the other way round. Are you really that conceited to think that your title carries that much weight in the corporate arena?
In fact I told you FGM evaluates on 4 criteria. Talent, Technical Ability, Attitude and Mental Strength. So your title means little to us. Even IM's mean little to us if they do not pass the 4 criteria.
I am still not totally convinced that you have returned our goodwill with this ungracious attack. But if you did then you are not the material we are looking for. FGM will not sponsor a player to get negative feedback from the training or tournament they went to. Attitude. And without good attitude you cannot develop mental strength. We have spoken on this at length.
I think you have been mislead and ill used. Think on it. I hope those who have influenced you can now provide you with the support that you will need to progress. If not they will have damaged you from this action. Learn to see clearly who these "friends" really are.
