Congratulations to PICA with caveat

187 participants. Well done! This will help revive chess in Perak. My beef has always been the running of suspect tournaments. I hope the cross tables will be published this time. Please go to Datcc for the results. I can't help but notice that Fong Yit San (former Selangor player but currently Perak) is 4th overall as well as U16 champ. As far as I know if you win in the top prizes someone else is given the honour for the age group. Maybe this is a new format.

Hopefully from all this activity a Perak champion/s will be born eventually.

PS: Hmmmm, dunno lah. Just got some feedback and also on closer look, the ratings look a little out to me. For instance, why is Fadzil's national rating used when he has a 2000 plus Fide rating? Surely PICA must know that. He is one of the very very few flying the Perak flag in National and big tournaments and still stand tall. And no offence to Sit Seng Yaw, but what rating is that? 3rd placing? More hmmmmmm. And 187 participants and so few rounds? I hope things will improve or it cannot be considered a serious tournament.

  1. You say you are a proud Perakian but you travel all the way to KL to play in a tournament when there is an event held right at your backyard in Ipoh. Somehow to say you support chess revival in Perak is a little dubious to say the least.

  2. Thank you for your comment. I was in fact asked this question in KL as well. Mark is already the U18 Perak Champion. He is now practising for the NAG to see if Perak may have a National player since 1975 I believe. In order to do that he needs to practice in the right tournaments. The field in KL provides him with the correct challenge. If Mark gets to be a National player, will it be good for Perak? He is the only Perak player that started playing and developed from the State.

  3. I read somewhere that all local tournaments (those that is not submitting to FIDE) will use Nat Rating over FIDE rating. Nat rating is more accurate among active local players. In fact, the organiser has made a mistake by using GM Ziaur FIDE rating. GM Ziaur has a MCF rating of 2467. The Sit guy rating is National Rating, same goes to Fadzil, Khai Boon and so on.

  4. This event was done by calibre Arbiter from KL, so don't just blame anything amiss on PICA.

I love reading many of your posting but you have to check your fact first before writing articles, if not you are just giving PICA bullets to shoot back, remember chess principle "Do not allow counter play from opponent when you're enjoying the upperhand in the game".

  5. Calibre arbiter at KL Grand Prix is false. Like I say in previous comment. Arbiter wrong in asking player want win or not.

  6. This topic is not KL Grand Prix, it's PICA event with 197 pax. Don't confuse the readers. The arbiters from KL who is doing this PICA event knew what they are doing.

KL Grand Prix is another matter, is the Arbiter from KL? I doubt so, he is from Penang (no offence).

  7. Hi, Just got back from KL. Many new revelations. Please see next post. I am told that the arbiter for PICA event is actually a local perak arbiter. However Greg Lau said he will investigate. I will keep you posted on this and other devlopments.

  8. What the hell are you trying to do?

So what if the Perak arbiter is a local one? What is wrong with that? What is there to investigate?
You were not even there and already you trying to find dirt when there is none!

  9. I just looked at the cross tables for the event. Can anyone make sense of it?

  10. The crosstable is pretty normal. What did you intend to find?

  11. It is interesting that you find the crosstable normal. Perhaps others can take a look and judge for themselves.

  12. The cross-table is correct, do you know how to read it? Let me make an educational guess, are you thinking that the opponent number for every round seen in each player represents the SNo of opponent.

Actually, the opp num represents the opponent final ranking number. Then, there is nothing wrong with the cross-table.

  13. I was personally there and I saw them use Swiss Manager there to do things. No hanky panky there. Also since the crosstable is public the players who took part would have seen any discrepancies if any. Check your facts first or at least educate yourself on how to read a simple crosstable result.

  14. GM Gaur, played with a zero pointer on the second round for instance. If you put your cursor against the names of the players and who they played with, you will find many inconsistencies.

  15. Ziaur Rahman played Chan Kah Poh second round. Chan is no zero pointer in R2. He had one point already. One pointer meets another one pointer in second round. I fail to see the discrepancies.
