A fantastic discussion on the women's masters.
I am so glad that Jimmy, Najib and Greg are in a healthy discussion to find a better way to select the women's masters. Somehow I think this is the way it should be. It should never be personal, just a search for better ideas. Very honestly I don't know much about the topic and so I hope to just read and learn. Do follow the discussion on DATCC blog as well as IM Jimmy Liew's. Will be at Jax's for the 10/20/30 so see you guys Monday.

ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip.
ReplyDeleteNothing healthy about anonymous character assassination.
ReplyDeleteJust a comment on information dissemination by MCF, based on my personal experience so far. I find that MCF via Greg Lau does try to be responsive to queries and concerns on selection process etc (rmbr the explanation on NAG & Junior Masters recently?). All stakeholders must continue to seek dialogue in a civilised, productive manner.
ReplyDeleteMay I suggest that MCF hold a briefing session with all stakeholders, particularly parents, on the processes for selection, qualifying requirements etc for the various national/international tournaments? Perhaps the first one can be organised during the upcoming NAG in Penang.
Good points. More dialogs and open communication can only be good.May I add the the Malaysian Women Masters is not an MCF affair. Privately sponsored and only connection with MCF is that it is used as a criteria to selecting players to play for the country.
ReplyDeletehai chess
ReplyDeleteno! no! greg to much.more on personal interest than mcf.we will sent a letter to tan sri to sack him from mcf secretary.good for him.no harm to mcf anymore.good for his personnel interest.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely agree that we do not need anonymous character assasination. Please offer constructive comments. Please look at what is happening now without past baggages. I think MCF is moving in the right direction now although maybe a little slowly. But if we look a little deeper that may be the nature of Associations. Consider this, committee members may come from an entirely different spectrum and then asked to work together beacuse they have been voted in. So politics is rife. So I look toward Academies because they can come together with a Vision. Decisions can be quick and decisive. Just my take.
ReplyDeleteSorry to Greg to have become the target of shoutboxes recently. He has taken the role of the villain quite suddenly. He is a nice person and should be treated better for all his efforts to bring up chess in Malaysia.
ReplyDeleteI agree. I think many forget what it was like before Greg. When I first posted the selection criteria for NAG and the national juniors, Andrew from gilachess said he never knew what the selction criteria was and felt embarassed. Actually I dont think there ever was any proper criteria before Greg. In a way I shared a similar issue when I was in PICA. Prior to me there was only what the President said. And the only criteria was his choice. But it takes time to come up with proper criterias. Some mistakes may be made but eventually it'll get better and better. We have such short memories.
